If you're looking for something different-tubes, multibit DACs, etc, you can also create your own system by choosing a separate amp and DAC from our broad line and stacking them on top of each other. Tons of power and a very low noise floor, ideal for any headphone Plus, it can be customized with an ES9028 DAC, or MM phono preamp.Įnd-game performance for both balanced and single-ended sources and headphones Jotunheim 2, from $399. Jotunheim 2 is a fully balanced amp that works perfectly with pretty much any headphone-balanced, single-ended, IEM, planar, whatever. No obsolescence-modular and upgradable for the future Single-box desktop solution with an added DAC card Today I received the Zen Dac after buying other products from iFi and being very impressed with them I decided to give their Zen Dac a try. With 500mW of Class A bias and 3500mW RMS power output, it delivers great sound, and tons of power.Įxcellent performance for virtually any headphone Asgard 3 is an insanely affordable, configurable amp or amp/DAC that works with pretty much any headphone. Much higher power, optical input, gain switchingĪsgard 3, from $249. Hel 2E, $199. Hel 2E ups the game with much higher power output than Fulla E. It also provides a microphone input, so it is perfect for gaming or home office use. Fulla plugs into virtually any computer and drives most headphones with ease. Or go for a "stack" (separate amp stacked on top of DAC) for more flexibility.įulla E, $109. Good news! We have plenty of one-box options. I don’t think you can go wrong either way, but at $400 for either the Element or the Asgard/Modius stack, I would recommend the latter for the reasons mentioned above. So you don't want to give up a lot of desk space, but you want better sound. ![]() My favorite combination is the Modius feeding the Asgard, which sounds better while also providing more input options. It should not sound like anything but the actual music that it is converting. The Schiit Modi 3 has been measured to perform extremely accurate for its price. It will be used as a pure DAC for good-quality budget speakers. I wouldn’t recommend the Schiit DAC card, which far underperforms the amp. The iFi has more in terms of features but I probably wont be using those anyway. I like the fact that the power supply is built in and the volume pot and headphone jack are nicer than those on the Element. The Asgard is also a very competent amp, more powerful than the Element and, to my ear, a little smoother and warmer. ![]() My only complaints are the fact that the large knob is attached to a small volume pot so it wobbles, and the finish is highly susceptible to fingerprints and scratches. It’s basically an Atom amp in a much nicer box combined with a pretty good performing DAC. All thoughts and experiences with the product are naturally my own. Disclaimer: JDS Labs sent us the Atom+ stack for this review, free of charge. They respectively cost 109 USD and 99 USD. ![]() The Element sounds great, neutral and clean. In this article, we review the JDS Labs Atom+ Stack, which is their Atom DAC & the Atom+ AMP. I have an Element II, an Asgard 3 with the 4490 DAC card, and a Modius. That being said, it probably doesn’t really help you choose but I felt like sharing anyway. Schiit B products discounted only by 3% felt ridiculous for me There can be cheaper components that you. The Schiit stack is the best stack currently in the market in relation to the price. Schiit Vali 2 (tube) or Schiit Magni 3 (solid-state). They basically encouraged anyone who doesn’t need the SPDIF to buy the cheaper option (Element II) cause everything else is the same The Schiit stack is composed of the following three devices: Schiit Modi 3. JDS Labs was very honest about Element II vs El Dac II + El Amp II. I felt Schiit was extremely well marketed and designed, but reviews about sound quality were not as unanimous as Element II or Atom I chatted with them and they seemed to care about me and took time to give advice JDS Labs customer support is known to be excellent. The element II knob and form factor was a big factor in my decision JDS Labs have a distributor in Canada, Schiit doesn’t (and doesn‘t seem to care about the crazy high duties, taxes and fees we get r*ped with) Here’s what made me choose Element over Asgard : I was pretty much set on Asgard before finally landing Element II. ![]()
